Community Spotlight: Philly ‘burbs WordPress Meetup

2010 was the first WordCamp Philly and one followed every year since, with the exception of 2016 when the Philly WordCamp was overtaken by WordCamp US, held here in the city of brotherly love.

WordCamp Philly WAS held in June of 2015 and the inaugural WordCamp US was held in December 2015 in Philadelphia. Two huge WordCamps in a period of 6 months!

The Philly ‘burbs WordPress Meetup bridges the gap between designers and developers building WordPress sites and writers, bloggers and marketers who use them on a daily basis. We focus on both design and development considerations (tips, techniques and hacks) as well as user concerns like expanded functionality and best practices. We occasionally delve into WordPress business related topics and always offer a Q&A at the end of our meetings for Happiness Bar type discussions. The conversation is all about WordPress.

We have developed a knowledge-exchange program where WordPress subject matter experts/knowledgeable folks can offer 30 minutes of their time in exchange for getting 30 minutes of time from another subject matter knowledge source. Not meant to be free consulting, but a way to pick someone’s mind for tidbits and help.

We have recently developed a scholarship program to assist any individual who may not be able to attend our meetup due to financial constraints. This would be targeting students, folks in transition, or others interested in WordPress but not able to cover the cost. We cover meetup fees and offer a gas stipend for up to 3 months for program participants.

We aim to create an atmosphere of sharing and collaboration, where each side of the conversation can contribute to insightful and engaging conversations.

Based in Chester and Montgomery Cos., PA, the group meetings rotate between 4 locations in the Philadelphia suburbs. This enables our members to meet dynamic WordPress professionals from across
the region.
